Vinous Stephen Tanzer - 01 Jan 17
(50% vendange entier): Good dark red. Riper and lower-toned on the nose than the village cuvée, dominated today by a chocolatey element. Riper and sweeter in the mouth, but less fruity than the village wine and more soil-driven. A peppery nuance gives lift to the middle palate. There's a slight rusticity here but this is classic Morey-Saint-Denis in a rather smooth style. Brouin referred to it as the definition of Morey, which is a blend of Gevrey and Chambolle. This wine comes mostly from Clos Sorbé but also includes fruit from three other plots.

Morey-Saint-Denis

Morey-Saint-Denis, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, is known for its elegant, well-structured Pinot Noir wines that balance the power of Gevrey-Chambertin and the finesse of Chambolle-Musigny. These wines feature flavours of red and black fruits, earthy spices, and floral notes, with refined tannins and excellent ageing potential. Home to five Grand Cru vineyards, including Clos de Tart and Clos Saint-Denis, top producers like Domaine Dujac, Domaine Ponsot, and Domaine des Lambrays are celebrated for their traditional winemaking and expressive wines.
